🔎 - Big Topic: Our first Budget Workshop of 2022!

On Thursday, June 23, Council approved LFUCG's 880 million dollar budget for fiscal year 2023!

If you want to learn more about the new LFUCG Budget, check out our Budget Workshop this Tuesday at 6pm. We will have activities showing how the budget works, talk about what's new in this year's budget, and reflect on how the budget matches up with our values and priorities as residents.

The Budget Workshop will be on June 28 at 6pm in the Pam Miller Downtown Arts Center 2nd floor Meeting Room.

In the meantime, feel free to look through our FY23 Budget Database and our Budget Resources page on our website!

🔎 - This week in City Hall: Board of Adjustment Meeting on allowing a new soccer facility

The Board of Adjustment will hold a special meeting to determine whether or not a new soccer facility can go on a property between Russell Cave Rd. and Newtown Pike. Lexington Sporting Club, the city’s new soccer team, has proposed building a 12 field youth soccer facility on the 147 acre plot of land currently owned by Anderson Communities.

The property is zoned Agricultural Rural (A-R), which currently does not allow for sporting complexes. The Board of Adjustment will decide whether to issue a conditional use permit, which would grant Lexington Sporting Club and Anderson Communities an exception to allow a sports facility to be built on this A-R property.

The meeting will be Tuesday, June 28 at 1:30pm in the 3rd Floor Conference Room of the Phoenix Building.

🏃 - Get Engaged

Housing Workshop

1 in 5 Lexington residents cannot find affordable housing.

Come participate in an interactive simulation of housing affordability held by Erin Aycock utilizing 2022 Zillow listings. This will be followed by a group discussion exploring the current housing reality with present economic and social factors and what can be done to spread awareness and address the issue of expensive housing for Lexington residents.

This workshop will be held on June 28 from 6pm to 7:30pm on Wednesday, June 29. Grab your spot on our Facebook!

🗞 - Updates from Last Week: Public Art Master Plan Presentation

Planning and Public Safety Meeting

Last week’s Planning and Public Safety committee meeting had a jam-packed agenda! First on the docket was a presentation about findings from the Sustainable Growth Task Force, a project designed to help decide if, when, and how the Urban Services Boundary should be expanded. The task force's analysis of Lexington's existing development conditions was approved by the committee, but the actual framework for boundary decisions was moved to the newly formed Goal 4 Workgroup. This workgroup combines Councilmembers, Division of Planning Staff, and Residents to tackle the next step of the process.

Next, D6 CM David Kloiber presented on his recommended changes to the Purchase of Development Rights (PDR) Program. He presented research on a possible program to create public access points to PDR Protected farms to allow residents to use parts of the farmland for recreation. Several Councilmembers expressed concern that members of the Rural Land Management Board, the body which heads PDR, were not present for comment. Council approved a motion to send the presentation to the Rural Land Management Board for further consideration.
